Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral to see a dietitian?

No you don't. However, if you are looking to claim from Medicare, your GP will need to put you on a care plan (chronic disease management/enhanced primary care plan) in order to be eligible for this. Contact us if you have any questions.

Do you accept private health fund rebates?

Yes. Dietitian services are eligible for rebates under 'Extras', please enquire with your health fund if you are unsure.

Can I claim both Medicare and private health fund?

Unfortunately you can only choose one. Please enquire with private health fund how much you can get back from your dietitian sessions. As of May 2023, Medicare gives minimum $56.00 per session and gap payment applies. We do not bulk-bill.

Do you do online consultations?

We offer online consultations via phone call, FaceTime or via our video conferencing planform (Healthdirect). For more information on how online consultations work please refer to this article on our blog.

They are non-refundable, unless at the discretion of the practitioner.

Do you do home visits?

Unfortunately we do not offer home visits at this stage. However we can deliver consultations via telehealth, where you can see us in the comfort of your home.

What languages do you speak?

Our dietitians can speak English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

What do I need to prepare or bring to my first consultation?

We request for list of medications, most recent pathology report and 3 day food diary prior to your first consultation. If it is an online consultation, send them to our email at least one day before your session so we are prepared to see you. If you are on a care plan, please also bring your referral form and letter from your GP. Feel free to bring any other documents to support your consultation.

What can I expect at my initial consultation?

A session with a dietitian can be quite different from a consultation with your doctor. An initial consultation is 45 minutes to 1 hour, this enables the dietitian to develop a clear understanding of your history, current diet, lifestyle and obtain any additional information that can form your nutrition plan. Prior to your first consultation, you will receive an email from us requesting some information to allow the dietitian to prepare for your upcoming session. We will also ask you to prepare a 3 day food diary if time allows.

At your first session, the dietitian will conduct a nutrition and health assessment based on the information you provided. Whilst the dietitian may have a goal in mind such as meeting your health and wellness goals, help you improve your relationship with food and build your knowledge on nutrition. We will also like you to be involved and talk about your expectations from the session.

Once the dietitian has collected all the relevant information, they will design an individualized and tailored plan together with you.

This may also involve:

  • Providing an education on the science of your health condition to give you a 'foundation' understanding or diet-disease relationship

  • Identifying factors or key areas that may be contributing to your condition

  • Create practical strategies to work towards your goals which may include meal suggestions.

  • Set short and long term goals

In many situations, there could be a lot to cover and the dietitian may recommend to create a plan involving several sessions to monitor progress, make adjustments and answer questions. We have packages available so you can stay committed to your own health journey.
