HAPPY GUT PROGRAM FOR IBS
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a complex gut disorder that affects an estimate of 7 to 15% population worldwide. It is a relatively common condition, however it often goes undiagnosed. It becomes problematic when it negatively impacts an individual's quality of life as they spend every moment feeling anxious and frustrated about the symptoms they experience.
There are currently no tests available to adequately diagnose IBS. Symptoms play an essential role to establish a diagnosis. There is a range of treatment options for management of IBS such as medications, supplements and dietary therapy. We have a post that explores the common triggers for IBS (click here).
The low FODMAP diet is one of the few dietary therapies shown to help manage IBS symptoms and research has suggested that up to 70% people experience significant improvements. More information about this here.
It is a complex and restrictive diet, therefore it is highly recommended that you go through it with the guidance of an Accredited Practising Dietitian trained in the use of low FODMAP (Monash University Certification).
